About Us

Mission

Our mission is to provide military veterans with resources, opportunities, and support at Columbia University, in order to facilitate a successful education and to provide a strong foundation for years to come.

Overview

The U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University (Milvets) was originally formed in 2002 by a group of students at the School of General Studies (GS) in order to foster camaraderie and networking among veterans. We join a long tradition of veteran scholars at Columbia, dating back to the end of World War II and the creation of GS.

Milvets are currently the largest student veterans organization in the Ivy League. Our membership includes men and women from every branch of the armed forces who have served in countless operations throughout the globe. As students, we utilize our experience to promote diversity and understanding, while striving to close the gap between our nation’s military and the society it serves.

We continue to expand our group’s core mission, with multiple events and opportunities both on and off campus. Our program is designed to address veterans’ issues while highlighting opportunities for social, academic, pre-professional,  and philanthropic engagement.

Support for the Milvets comes from the administration of Columbia University and the School of General Studies. Additional contributions have been made by the Student Veterans of America, HonorVet.org, and American Corporate Partners.
