Gifts

The U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University (Milvets) accept tax-deductable cash gifts, to underwrite operating costs or to fund specific events and programs throughout the academic year. 

Tax Advantages

A cash gift entitles you to the most generous federal income tax charitable deduction up to 50 percent of adjusted gross income. If all deductible gifts in that year exceed the 50-percent limit, the excess amount may be carried over as a deduction for up to five years.

Matching Programs

Many companies will make a matching gift to the U.S Military Veterans of Columbia University (Milvets) when one of their employees makes a donation. To find out if your company has such a program, use our convenient search engine.

How To Give

By Check

Your check should be made payable to Columbia University and, to ensure that it is properly credited, must be accompanied by a letter outlining that the purpose of the gift is for the U.S Military Veterans of Columbia University (Milvets). Checks may be mailed to the following address:

By Credit Card

When paying by credit card you must select the school or division as "Columbia College Student Affairs", then you must select a designation as "Milvets Gift".

By Wire Transfer

While most donors send personal checks or use credit cards, the U.S. Military Veterans of Columbia University also accept cash gifts by wire transfer. To make a gift to Columbia by wire please contact Columbia’s Gift Systems department at giftsys@columbia.edu or 1-866-GIFTSYS and remember to specify the school or division as "Columbia College Student Affairs", and specify the designation as "Milvets Gift".

Conditions

All gifts are voluntary, irrevocable, and gratuitous transfers to, and acceptance by, Columbia University in the City of New York, of cash or cash equivalent, securities, or property of value, or execution of an instrument that legally vests an instrument of value in the University. Acceptance of gifts shall not include an endorsement or inducement to sell, purchase, or distribute a company’s products or services. Columbia University shall issue a written receipt to every donor who makes a gift.
